That Was Meant to Happen

This is my mantra.

I think I picked it up when I started studying Byron Katie's work.

One day,  I just noticed how often I say this in my head.

How brilliantly it sets me free. Every time.

It releases me from my argument with the past. That argument I have never (not once) won.

When things go wrong or someone doesn't think I am fabulous.

That was meant to happen.

When I am late for a meeting or the phone doesn't work for my telecourse.

That was meant to happen.

When my son brings home an "F" or the kids tease him at school.

That was meant to happen.

When I overeat pizza or drink too much wine.

That was meant to happen.

And when my best friend sends me a letter that says: "Because of you, I became a happier person."

And means it.

That was meant to happen.
