What Were you Thinking?

Think about one of your most important accomplishments.

What were you thinking before and during that accomplishment?

My guess is that it wasn't  any of the following:

I will never make anything of myself.

I'm ugly, stupid, lazy, worthless, incapable.

I can't get anything right.

I am not as good as she is.

When I think back to the things in my life that I am most proud of, I find my thoughts at the time were kind, loving, generous.

I am very proud of writing a book.  What made that accomplishment possible was one thought: This can help people.

I am very proud of ending my struggle with emotional eating.  What made that accomplishment work was: It's more important to end this struggle than to be skinny.

I am very proud of getting married to my husband, Chris.  (Yes. It is an accomplishment.) The thought that made that one happen was:  I know I can love him well for the rest of my life.

I am very proud of every single client I have coached well and every single student who has learned from me.  The thought that still makes that possible is:  We can all use our minds to find happiness.

When I look back on my failures, I can also see the patterned thinking that lead me there.   Thoughts like:

I don't have time.

It's good enough.

It doesn't really matter.

I can't.

I'm not …..

Look at your life.  Look at the results that you wanted and the ones you didn't. Trace it back to what you were thinking at the time.

One thought can be reused to create failure over and over again. ( I'm not good enough.)

But, miraculously, the opposite is true as well.

One thought can be reused to create success and happiness. (I have so much to give.)
